"Essence of the Wild"

"Essence of the Wild", featuring watercolorist Lynn Bickerton Chan and cut-paper artist Georgia Donovan, opens with an artists reception on September 26th and will be in place until November 14th. While both artists have versatile subject matter in this exhibit they focus on the subjects they are most passionate about, wild creatures and wild land. Donovan intricately cuts paper and paints the tiny figures, from tiny ants up to the large elk and bears found in our ecosystem. She throws in some plants along the way. Bickerton Chan is a self taught watercolorist who currently works in sustainability in Yellowstone. She has done many paintings for signage and exhibits in Yellowstone over the years. Her front row seat to the subject matter is evident in her work.

Demo and Artists Talk by Watercolorist Lynn Bickerton Chan

Watercolor demonstration and talk by artist Lynn Bickerton Chan. Having worked in Yellowstone for much of her careers in sustainability and landscape architecture, the artist has a front row seat to the wildlife and landscapes that she often features in her work. Lynn has painted many of the trail head orientation exhibits seen around Yellowstone and has completed commissions for paintings of historic buildings throughout the region. She is a self taught watercolorist originally from England. "I strive to learn how to represent our world and the emotion it holds for us accurately but without copying it exactly. With this goal in mind I use pastel, pencil, and acrylic mediums but my favorite is watercolor as it never ceases to amaze and inspire me when done well, it also has a mind of its own so will always challenge me, and keep me humble." She will demonstrate and discuss the techniques she has developed to capture her varied subject matter.

Summer LINKS Art: Farm and Field

This summer, LINKS for Learning partnered with The Art Room East to provide students with hands-on art lessons. Three times a week, young artists walked to the Shane Center to create alongside local artist Susannah Robertson, exploring her summer theme: Farm and Field. This partnership was made possible through a grant from the Montana Arts Council, designed to provide social-emotional learning opportunities for students through creative expression. The Summer LINKS Art Program integrates problem-solving, visual arts education, and social-emotional learning into every class. Through meaningful, hands-on experiences, students were able to explore self-expression, build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills, and develop healthy ways to express themselves. This program empowers children to think creatively, connect with others, and engage deeply in their learning, both in and beyond the classroom.

We are excited to celebrate their creativity with a special student art gallery. The pieces will be thoughtfully displayed, giving students the experience of seeing their work showcased for the community, just like professional artists. Join us as we honor the imagination and talent of our LINKSters and the beauty they discovered in Farm and Field.
